Islands of Adventure is the newest addition to Universal Studios Florida and has been called “the most high-tech theme park in the world.” It is especially popular with families with small children and teens. Here you can defy gravity, battle comic book heroes, ride the white water rapids, and experience the world’s first inverted, dual roller coaster. Islands of Adventure is almost like five theme parks in one; it is made up of five entirely different themed islands, where you “live” the adventure. From Marvel Superhero Island to Toon Lagoon, there is a different ride for young and old – something for just about everyone to enjoy. Islands of Adventure is located inside the Universal Orlando Studios Resort, on the southeast side of Orlando, just ten minutes north of Walt Disney World. Take I-4 to the Universal Orlando exit, and then follow the signs to the parking structure. From there, walk through the CityWalk shopping and dining complex and turn to the left to Islands of Adventure.

Islands of Adventure Rides and Attractions
Five different “themed” islands make up the Islands of Adventure Park. Parents with small children will enjoy spending time in Seuss Landing, where you’ll meet characters from the popular Dr. Seuss books – it’s the only place where all of the Dr. Seuss whimsical characters come to life. Small children love the multi-colored “Caro-Seuss-el, and moms and dads can sit back and relax while the kids entertain themselves at “If I Ran the Zoo,” an interactive play area.

The Lost Continent is where you’ll find the “Dueling Dragons,” the world’s first inverted, dueling roller coasters. Soar 125 feet into the air as you reach speeds of 55mph on two unique rides – the Fire Dragon and the Ice Dragon. Adventure awaits you around every corner at The Lost Continent as you explore ancient myths and legends.

Dinosaurs come back to life at Jurassic Park, where you can take an unforgettable river raft ride and see dinos in their natural habitat. If you love water rides, head to Toon Lagoon, home to Dudley Do-Right’s Rip Saw Falls and other wild water rides. You can also meet and greet some of the best-loved cartoon and comic book characters at Toon Lagoon. At Marvel Super Hero Island, the pages of the comic books come to life on some of the most advanced rides ever. On The Incredible Hulk Coaster, you’re launched from zero to 40mph in just two seconds, and the 3D special effects are so outstanding on the Amazing Adventures of Spiderman, they defy description.

Universal Orlando also hosts the very popular Halloween Horror Nights at both Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios Florida in evenings from late September through Halloween. This is a "hard ticket" event that does not include daytime admission to the parks.

Islands of Adventure Orlando History
Universal Studios’ Islands of Adventure opened in 1999, making Universal Orlando the nation's second multi-gate theme park resort (after Walt Disney World). Islands of Adventure was Universal's first non-studio theme park, and was intended to pay tribute to characters from books, comics, cartoons and legend, rather than movies. However, over the past few years, Universal and other studios have made films about almost every character represented in Islands of Adventure.
